Da Brat is speaking publicly about why she felt hurt by longtime music executive Deb Antney.
During an appearance on “The Rickey Smiley Morning Show,” Da Brat said she and Antney once developed a boot camp-style reality show concept together and pitched it to WE tv. The network did not move forward with the project at the time, according to Da Brat.
Da Brat said she later reached out to a television executive about revisiting the idea and was told Antney was already pitching a show. She said the discovery made her feel betrayed because she believed the original concept had been a collaborative effort.
“I automatically felt betrayed,” Da Brat said, according to the show’s recap.
Da Brat emphasized that she was not claiming full ownership of the idea. She said her frustration was rooted in believing the concept they built together was later pursued without her knowledge.
Antney has denied stealing Da Brat’s idea. She said the project she developed was different from the earlier boot camp concept and that she would not intentionally cut Da Brat out of a deal.
The dispute has played out across interviews and social media. Baller Alert reported that Da Brat also responded with a viral “Surviving Deb” skit, using a mock documentary-style format to address the situation.
Despite the public tension, Da Brat said she does not plan to take legal action and wishes Antney success.
The situation has resonated online because both women have deep ties to hip-hop culture. Da Brat is a pioneering rapper and media personality, while Antney is a veteran manager known for helping guide the careers of major artists.
For now, the disagreement appears to be personal and professional, not legal.
